On June 7 & 8, the festival moves to Woodbine Park where entry is FREE.
Toronto (Canada) – May 27, 2014 The 15th Annual Muhtadi International Drumming Festival will start off the Summer Festival Season with the launch at the Royal Ontario Museum Friday Night Live paid event on June 6. This will be followed by the full Free Festival at Woodbine Park, Toronto, ON Canada on June 7th and 8th, 2014. Welcome to the Festival where all cultures come together, drumming and dancing to one beat!
MIDF XV Features Headliner Will Calhoun (Living Colour) Main Stage Sunday June 8 7 pm
We are very proud to have Will Calhoun the widely acclaimed Mapex drummer on our Main Stage for this year’s festival in Woodbine Park. In addition to his work with Living Colour, Will has recorded and/or toured with diverse artists including B.B. King, Mick Jagger, Run-DMC and Public Enemy. As a producer, player, and songwriter, Will has worked on Herb Alpert’s Grammy-nominated CD, Colors. He was described by DRUM Magazine as “The Jimi Hendrix of drumming”.

MIDF XV is ecstatic to be guests of the ROM to help us launch the festival in style at BEATS on June 6. This forms part of the ROM’s Friday Night Live paid season where you can enjoy all that the museum has to offer but in a distinctly ‘Friday Night’ setting. The premier social event Torontonians have been waiting for all winter is back – the fifth season of Friday Night Live. BEATS features Amara Kante (Ivory Coast), Joaquin Nunez Hidalgo featuring Dyalis Machado Migeles (Afro-Cuban), Maracatu Mar Aberto (Afro Brazilian), Muhtadi & the World Drummers (West African), Northern China’s Waist Drum and Dance Group (China) and T-Dot Batú (Brazilian Samba Reggae). Friday night revelers will dance their way through the ROM’s collections to the sounds of the city’s hottest DJs. Come experience live performances and Celebrate the DRUM during “A Night at the Museum”.
The Muhtadi International Drumming Festival (MIDF) celebrates the drum, its universality as an art form, and its presence in all cultures around the world. Muhtadi International Drumming Festival (MIDF) is extremely proud to present the diverse group of Performers comprising the 2014 Lineup. MIDF is the only annual festival in North America celebrating the diverse range of the drum. It is a free festival that is gaining additional recognition year after year. The event promises to be a 3 day family-friendly celebration full of multicultural performances and passionate, artistic people.
